Yet Another Cool Student Blog

Check out Nicolas' awesome blog in the "Cool Student Blogs" section. Nic (apparently as he likes to be called by everyone but his teacher and Mom), is a talented filmmaker. His blog features some of his stop motion short films. Way to go! Maybe you can post the film review you're working on in class.
"Nic" likes to play video games - a lot. Sound familiar? Below, you'll find a clip of what video games were like for me when I was growing up during the Stone Age. It was rough. Did I mention that I had to trudge for thousands of kilometers in the snow with wild dogs chasing after me? You kids these days have it so good. LOL. Ms. Hawkins

Ryan's Blog

Blogmania has taken over Room 204. Ryan is the latest addition to our "Cool Blog" list. Check it out. Ryan, perhaps after you retire as a professional hockey player, you can write for The Hockey News. Good going! I think more hard rock action is required. Sorry girls. I promise Taylor Swift is on the way. Maybe.

I Want My Mummy

Comments by Grace J.
Grace, your comments are hilarious. You'll be the first scientist who moonlights as a stand up comic. I'll be in the front row doubled over saying, "I taught her when she was in Grade 5. She made up funny jokes about ancient Egyptians' intestines." - Ms. Hawkins
CM starts digging in.
AS removes an orange's internal organs....it's not as gross as it looks.
A bunch of students with ER in the front having fun.
NZ dips the orange into the Room 204 version of Egyptian wine.
Dipping it in!
Various serious group of boys with the same name dissecting orange organs.
See - embalming doesn't have to be all that serious. Ask these two dudes.
A former knight - I think he was eating his orange...
Salt was used for the natron - part of the embalming process. I wonder if any of these oranges will be coming back from the afterlife?
See - we were all busy working really hard! Honest!
Taking out an orange's guts.
Up close - you can see the natron. You can see some of the salt and baking soda that we used in the natron on NZ's fingers. It was squishy but didn't hurt as much as when it was put in alcohol.

I bet R'OR (ROAR) wishes this were a baseball.
This fellow fills in the gaps.
You can't see it but Pie Girl carved a head on this potato - it was supposed to be a head. She was dreaming of pie...
All of our oranges - see you later this week! I hope it worked.
The mummy crew takes away our oranges/potatoes. Some pretty cool stuff!

You can't make sno-cones with this!

It was a snowy day, perfect for looking at how clean our city is...
ROAR had actually ordered a LARGE ice-cap but this is what he got instead.
A group of students from our class hit pay dirt! Some gross, disgusting snow.
MW writes down his observations carefully.
SH takes his sample from the dirty pile. We're still trying to figure out how it got that dirty.
One of the blogmasters showing how much appetizing this looks.
I wonder how much pollution comes from cars. I better start walking to school more often.
MR and friends find the dirtiest snow ever. Is there actually any of the white stuff out here at all?
Don't eat this - it is exactly as GROSS as it looks.
Taking time out from a busy day of science to write her name. Should have used cursive! Kidding!
Yay - snow that finally looks clean. Makes you appreciate the phrase Snow White!
SK finds more clean snow!
There goes the hot streak - E.B. finds more of the dirty snow.
Pinky takes a closer look at how clean her snow is.
M.B. gets excited watching snow melt.
E.R. filtering snow - I wonder how much dirt will be trapped in the filter?
D.S. holds his sample at arm's length. It's really not as dirty as that D. - I promise!
Here are the results from our class. What your parents told you is true - don't eat the snow! At least we didn't find any other colours of snow. That would have been really gross!

Orbital Manga

Hello gang,
Moonlight Mile is manga created by Yasuo Otagaki. After watching An Inconvenient Truth in class this week, I thought you'd enjoy this short film, directed by Iku Suzuki. We'll talk about the lyrics and the images in the computer lab this week. Can we make any connections between Moonlight Mile and An Inconvenient Truth? This should be an interesting discussion.
