Let There Be Natural Light!

Last Friday was Earth Hour Day at Clairlea. Parts of the school looked a bit like this.
We found our inspiration in light: outside...
Making rubbings of bark for the covers of Aztec codices. The paper was pre-used and salvaged from the library.

Gorgeous weather + kids = fun learning in the outside classroom.

If you look closely enough at QH's sheet, you'll see text on the other side.

An indoor activity involved scavenging through blue bins for random pieces of texts that would become found poems - something we were working on anyway.

Junk becomes...
Illuminating poetry!
Big smiles.
Proud smiles.
Sleepy smiles.
And bearded smiles.

Great work gang! I'm so happy to see you jazzed by what we're doing in Language and Social Studies. All this without any worksheets. Yipee!

Here's some nineties grunge from before you were born. I like the sentiment of the lyrics.

Art Class: Egyptian Hieroglyphs in Clay

I popped into the art studio on the last day before the March Break. It was there I discovered wonderful kids making beautiful art. For a school that is not technically considered a "School of the Arts," the students of Clairlea are certainly immersed in all aspects of culture. Enjoy the scenes.

More Egyptian Artifacts

More pictures, more captions needed. We'll have to hire a whole crew of blogmasters next week to stay on top of this job. Heave. HO!
