Excellent Video on Archimedes' Principle

We learned about Archimedes' Principle in our buoyancy experiment last week. Here is an excellent explanation to reinforce our learning. I will show this in class, but have a look ahead of time. Mr. Steers has a measuring container with a spout, so we can experiment further next week and compare the mass of an object submerged in water with the mass of water displaced.
Isn't science and math fun?

A New Mole Will Be Chosen Next Week

Your former Mole had fun messing with your minds. No surprise.

Next week the new Mole will be selected and profiles of possible Moles will begin appearing on this blog. Be very careful. You'll need to use those sharp inferring skills to win the game. Besides, maybe you'll be the MOLE!

Hey former Mole. This could be you in 40 years! LOL

Bloggers Please Read

Bloggers, the rules of the Surrealist Parlour Game are on the Fantastic Fives blog. You may have to scroll down a bit to find it. Here is the order for the story writers:
Mathew W - writes the beginning of a great/strange/funny story and then copies and pastes the last sentence to the comment box of ...
Nic, who continues the story and copies and pastes the last sentence to...
Phoebe, who does the same and sends to...
Aaliyah... to
Natasha... to
Megan... to
Aahil... to
Dimitri... to
Saima/Trin... to
Justin... to
Sibghat... to
Ayden... to
Ryan

I hope I haven't left anyone out who has comments that are working.
This is meant to be fun, so have fun. It may be a disaster, but let's hope at least part of it works out.
Please don't read anything until you've had your chance to write your section of the story.

Bridges and Another Contest

Here are pictures from Mr. Baron's bridge building workshop in Science. Students will begin presenting their bridges tomorrow. Fantastic team work! I hope to film the presentations and upload to Blogger. "Oh Mr. Knieriiiiiiiiim..."

I found a really great site to learn more about bridges and forces. Go to http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/buildingbig/index.html and click on Labs to experiment with forces, materials, loads and shapes. You'll have fun learning. Isn't that the best way?

Contest Alert (hey Grace!)
Watch the video at the bottom of this post. If you can bring me the name of this very famous old city (that has many bridges), your name will be put in a hat and a lucky winner will win a prize. I know, I know. Old prizes from the last contest haven't been handed out yet. I'm shopping this weekend.
Ms. Hawkins
P.S. Orbital hail from the country this city is the capital of.
Duncan's funkmobile passes the road test.

A Flock of Seagulls

We've started running in the morning. It's supposed to help kids focus their minds on work. It's also fun.

Does this "power" walker in pink look just a little too casual? When I wasn't taking pictures, I was running and I'm no spring chicken!
The boys after four laps prepare for another round. Good healthy fun.
Check out the "power" walker again and the boy in the foreground who insisted on eating his breakfast burrito or whatever it was while running. Mom, if you're reading this - I told him it would lead to tummy troubles but he just wouldn't listen.
"And we ran. We ran so far away..."
Oh "power" walker. What will we do?

Enjoy the video below. This is what your folks looked like in the eighties.

She Blinded Us With Science!

Here are the rest of the pictures from our "What's the Matter?" Scientists in School workshop. Thanks to Scientist Leanne for adding fizz to our afternoon. We all learned a great deal about solids, liquids, and gasses. You blinded us with science - in a good way!
